College campuses provide an opportunity for the meeting and interaction of people from all lifestyles. As a result, there is a lot of exchange of information and experiences that help shape peoples lives. Upon admission, a student makes friends who become part of his/her life. It is through those interactions and prior information that I realized the problems that college campuses face. In this regard, I decided to take the nursing program, which will enable me, offer help to college students who abuse the study drugs so that they can be able to get better grades. However, these drugs have side effects that outweigh the advantages accruing out of them.
College campuses experience the problem of students abusing study drugs so that they can stay awake for long hours and study. Specifically, most of them take the drugs like Adderall and Vyvanse so that they can match with the demanding nature of the curriculum. Some argue that these drugs are good stimulants and therefore, necessary for students. However, the side effects are enormous. Although some students have been helped by the drugs, it is only those who are diagnosed with attention deficit disorder. My first experience of this situation arose when one of the students got a sudden cardiac arrest because of the side effects of the drugs. However, instead of the other students helping her, they were caught in a state of shock and confusion. Additionally, before she could be taken to the nearest health facility for medical attention, her life was at risk. Notably, there were no nurses around who could figure out the best first aid that they could offer to the student. In that case, her life was in danger. In view of that, I became passionate of the nursing profession. In any case, some of students have taken the drugs without the necessary prescription. Others do not even know whether they have the Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and ADHD.
The observation of how students become addicted to the drugs because of abusing them was a motivation to me. In this regard, my interest and passion for nursing got a huge boost. I only had one utmost reason that I wanted to be able to pursue nursing- to ensure that students get the right prescription for the study drugs before they take them. This controversial problem exists in variety of colleges. Specifically, college campuses that have very demanding curricula for the students are likely to have more students taking the drugs. Therefore, it is necessary for the students be advised on the important of prescription as well as the side effects of the drugs. This way they will be able to prevent the abuse of the drugs. From this experience, I was very sad and depressed- I had to do something about it. This led me to undertake the nursing program so that I can be able to offer advice on such matter. My long-term goals are to ensure that college campuses are well advised on the side effects of the use of Vyvanse and Adderall without the necessary prescription.
College campuses need to offer advice to students on the side effects of the use of the yvanse and Adderall for ADHD. More importantly, students should be encouraged to get a subscription before they buy the drugs over the counter. Specifically, they should first be diagnosed with attention deficit. To ignore this delicate area is very unfortunate. Additionally, they should be warned to stop using the drugs as mere stimulants. Indeed, only those diagnosed with attention deficit disorder should be allowed to take the study drunks. Any laxity by college campuses on this matter should be addressed so that students are saved from addiction. This way, there would be minimal cases of stroke, irritability, insomnia, seizures, and sudden cardiac deaths.
