My goal is to define the psychological issues that each of the characters have in regard to the film Being John Malkovich. This study is important and I am doing it because I want to understand the psychological issue that the characters had which made them behave in the manner they did, in the film. I am going to do this by watching the film and critically analyzing words and actions that are portrayed by the characters of the film. In addition to that, I will also review some books that have analyzed the characters of the film. This will enable me to evaluate the psychological problems according to the observations that I will make. The other reason as to why I am doing it is so that I can understand the circumstances that made them have psychological issues.

According to the author, Dr. Lester has some psychological issues that are evident from the film. He cuts a deal together with Maxine and his friends to fake Maxines kidnapping. He further threatens to kill Craig if he does not leave Malkovichs mind. He bluffs with Craig in attempts to remove him inside the body of Malkovich, once and for all. His psychological issue can be evidently perceived as he enters the body of Malkovich after forcing Craig out. He had his own personal interests rather than helping Lotte.

The author talks about Maxine who is the coworker to Craig. She is selfish and she cares all about money and love. She agreed to open the portal for others to enter for $200. She definitely has some psychological issues too as she agrees to have sexual relationships with Malkovich who is controlled by Craig and Lotte, too. She becomes pregnant for Lotte who made her pregnant while in Malkovichs body and she decided to keep the baby even though she knew it belonged to a fellow woman, even though they had fallen in love.
