The target audience for the research article is for researchers, students, professionals in the health sector, and anybody else who is interested such as policy makers. The popular media article, however, targets the health-conscious masses who are interested in food and nutrition such as patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases and people who are conscious about diet and impact on their health. Since anyone who can access any of the two articles can get some information, the two articles can be said to target anyone interested in risks of cardiovascular diseases or diabetes. But specifically, the research article is more focused on targeting audience who have concerns about sweeteners and also those interested in learning much about diabetes. Similarly, the popular media article specifically targets audience who are either concerned about fructose or risks of cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of the research article is to give a brief overview of the research article in the form of an abstract. The article also has several other purposes including to communicate the research findings obtained by the researchers. The other purpose is also to show give a background to their research, their research problem, and the literature they reviewed in their attempt to draft a problem statement which will address the research gap they had identified. Also, the research article also provides logical steps that were followed to conduct during data collection and analysis. Further, the research article provides the names of researchers who carried out the study and conclusions the reached, the limitations of the research findings and suggestions for future research. On the other hand, the popular media article was to make a short report of a research article that was carried out by some researchers. The purpose of the article is to give a brief account of the results obtained by the researchers, the sample and the procedure or method they used to gather data, the results of the data analysis, and the conclusions made at the end of the research. Both articles are similar in that the report about the research sample, the method, the results, and the conclusion. The research article was written to document the research process and the findings that were obtained so that other people and scholars interested in the topic can get informed. It was also written so that someone who wishes to perform other studies in future can get an idea or identify the research gap on what the previous researchers achieved. This avoids repetition of research that has been performed. The popular media article, however, was written to inform audience who are health conscious about the research findings of an investigation of the relationship between fructose and cardiovascular diseases. The major aim was to create awareness about research results of an investigation carried out by researchers. In a way, both articles had something in common because one of the overall purposes was to inform because one can get informed by reading either of the two articles.

The two articles share one thing about pictures in that none has pictures. While there are tables in the research article, the popular media article do not contain any graph, tables, or charts. The research article does not have advertisements. Contrary to the research article, the popular media article contain advertisements about food, news, and wellness but one need to subscribe to Facebook to get more information. From this comparison and contrast, it is evident that the two articles have some differences and similarities.
