Introduction
In today's world, there are many things that need to be changed. Our world is not perfect. Humanity faces a lot of global issues from time to time. Global problems follow us from the dawn of mankind until the present day. If I had the opportunity to change three things in this world, then perhaps it would be pollution, war, and poverty. These three selected issues are affecting the lives of every person on Earth. The UN classifies them as the category of global issues. Resolving these problems will affect the social progress of humanity and the preservation of our civilization.
Global Issues That Affect the Social Progress
First, contamination, or pollution, is a relatively new global problem. Humanity is increasingly concerned by this problem. Scientific and technical progress has led to production increases, which significantly affected the environment. Manufacturers are only thinking about how to produce the products and ecological problems are of little concern. Thousands of people die every year due to the poor quality of water and air. Also, we have increased sea levels. This leads to floods in coastal areas. People are forced to flee to safe areas. Also, the water level rise could flood the agricultural territory and create another problem food shortages and the increase of prices. To improve the ecological situation, we need to do the following: to clean industrial emissions, use biofuels, apply non-waste technologies and improve the overall ecological environmental awareness. The Earth without the pollution will be a better place to live.
The second problem is the war issue. Wars were a part of our long history during human evolution. Humanity faced more than 14 500 war conflicts for over six thousand years. World War II was the most destructive conflict in human history. Over 65 countries took part in the conflict. The losses were terrible: over 60 million people were killed or died and half of them were civilians during WWII (History, 2009). Also, the war conflicts could bring other global problems. The huge amounts of the destroyed drills were polluting the region, both air and soil during the Iraq war. Another global problem due to the war conflict could be the refugee crisis. The further development of modern warfare could lead to the total human race elimination. The next World War could be the last one for the humanity. We have created numbers of destructive weapons. Nuclear, chemical and biological weapons have the devastating effects on humans and ecology. In my opinion, we have to renounce our weapons of mass destruction. The UN has to play the crucial role in peacekeeping process. The world without wars would be a nice and secure place to live in.
The last issue is poverty, one of the most important global problems in the world. Poverty is the inability to obtain the simple and accessible living conditions. Large-scale poverty, particularly in developing countries, poses a serious threat not only to national but also for the world's sustainable development. According to Worldhunger data (2013), approximately 795 million people suffer from chronic malnutrition every year. That is, one in nine. They cant allow buying themselves healthy food, clean drinking water and medicine. Sadly, there is a lot of food on the Earth to share with poorest regions. Distribution of the poorest regions of the world looks like two-thirds of the world's poor people live in East and South Asia and one-quarter in sub-Saharan Africa. Most of the poor are concentrated in rural areas of developing countries. The poverty rate depends on the socioeconomic development of the country. So, one of the ways to get rid of poverty would be to enhance the economic development of the countries. Also, the developed countries could pay more attention to the problems of poverty in less developed countries.
Conclusion
It is impossible to imagine our world without any global issues. But we can make our world a better place to live for everyone without wars, pollution, and poverty. I would choose these top three things because I believe these are the most important global problems in the world.
