For example, the Surgeon who wrongly amputated Willie Kings leg was ordered to reimburse the patient $10,000 and the hospital compensated the patient an extra $900,000.
Workforce awareness is created by health regulatory bodies about the protection and use of Protected Health Information (PHI). Health practitioners are educated on maintaining the delicate balance between restricting information thus maintaining confidentiality and giving providers and others access to required information for patient care. Patient Privacy regulations have also been put in place, and failure to comply exposes the medical practitioner to the risk of litigation and heavy punishment.

The risk of litigation due to malpractice has led many health care professionals to practice defensive medicine. Defensive medicine is also known as defensive medical decision making is desertion from standard medical practice as a safeguard from litigation. The medical practitioner may order a treatment that is not the best for the patient but ensures that he is not exposed to malpractice litigation. It may also come in the form of requesting for a test or carrying out a procedure with the main aim of warranting the patient cannot claim negligence.
Increased compliance of the healthcare organization in the changing environment has led to proper Health Care Management. It guarantees that definite results are achieved, that departments within a health institution are efficiently and effectively running, that the right people are in the right job and they know what is expected of them, that resources are well used and that departments are working in synergy towards one common goal (Lueddeke, 2015).
Health IT has brought about the threat of patient health information falling into the wrong hands through data breaches. Medical institutions that use health IT have been forced to replace or upgrade their systems. On the positive side, Health IT assists to improve medical care, lower costs, increase efficiency, reduce error and improve patient satisfaction.
Improvement in Patient Care by health institutions has reduced the number of hospital-acquired conditions and the general well-being of patients. It has also led to enhanced patient and caregiver experience of care. The general standard of health care has been improved in the provision of quality and efficient services.
Collectively, the rapid changing Health Care Management system and its emerging issues are changing the legal and ethical issues affecting health care while bringing about the advancement in research or technology for the betterment of health care. It is achieved with the evolution and development of patient care and service delivery models which require regulatory bodies to create and enforce protocols for ensuring compliance of the healthcare organizations. The emerging issues in health care management should be effectively controlled, harnessed and understood for the betterment of the health sector as a whole.
