Introduction
In everyone’s life, buying new stuff happens to be the best time since it feels good when you have brand new stuff in your house. The problem here is, the more we buy new stuff, the more we accumulate more stuff in us. It makes us more content to purchase and amass more material things like houses, autos, and costly gems. It isn't the same sentiment as being upbeat in an association with others, yet it can convey a grin to our face and fulfillment for how effective we are feeling in life. This ought not to be what makes us upbeat and satisfied by any stretch of the imagination, yet many individuals utilize the buying of material things to help them feel better and more satisfied. They think the more that they have, the better their life is. We ought to concentrate on less materialistic interests I would like to think. Lucky enough, this behavior did not start today but goes way back to the 1920s.
Western Consumerism
According to Willman, individuals in the western region of the planet are experiencing a new wave of revolution as far as the issue of accumulating stuff is concerned. Regions of the United Kingdom as stated by Chriss Goodall have attained the peak of physical consumption. From our point of view, it suggests that the United Kingdom accumulated stuff before it turned into chaos. From his point of view, the art of accumulating stuff is worth doing since there is an essential problem with the use of consumerism and the worth method of materialism. The only issue here is seen on environmental matters.
Effect of Environment on Happiness
Being happy is relatively dependent on the kind of environment one is inhabiting. However, Willman denotes that in 1974, people were unhappy because of the unbearable GDP, meaning that people could not afford to acquire something. Towards 2003, things changed and revealed that people were unhappy because of the material stuff. According to Willman, you dont have to have much stuff for you to be happy. Happiness is all about what you can do with the little stuff you have to make you feel comfortable. There are people with little stuff, and yet they are rich and living happy life. Therefore, the issue of stuff accumulation is just a psychological perception that has poisoned some people with the mentality of desiring to be like other people who are changing stuff now and then (Frost & Steketee, 2011). Willman sees the accumulation of stuff as being beneficial to the businessmen from the point that as people purchase stiff from their preferred shops, they promote such a person business-wise.
Conclusion
When trying to compare the works of Willman with the reality and the current living generation, I can state the issue of stuff accumulation as being a 50/50 kind of situation. From a positive point of view, for instance, if a person has enough space and enough resources to allow him or her to purchase stuff, then he/she should proceed and make it happen. Purchasing the stuff you feel is needed in your life, gives you that fulfilled desire in your heart since you would have achieved your targeted goal. However, if by any chance you are not capable of owning enough space and money to make the purchase of the stuff you desire, you dont have to make it a necessity since it may lead to disappointments hence making you feel unhappy leading to depression.
