According to me, leadership is a process that involves social influence to maximize efforts from others as a way of achieving set goals and standards. My perception of leadership does not have to do with seniority or being in a top position of a company. It is all about being someone who can be emulated and approached to give advice on areas that need critical decision making. I do not believe in the leadership of titles. Leadership is inborn, and everyone has his or her way of leading. I believe that leadership is a process where everyone in a group gets motivation and support from one key person. The key person is the leader who ensures that all that has been discussed is implemented.

My leadership philosophy is based on life experiences, failures, success and observations. Leadership to me is a journey which may or may not has a destination. The Journey consists of a leader and followers who ensure that the destination is uniform to all of them. My philosophy on great leaders entails having a plan which acts as a guide to accomplishing all the tasks ahead. The plan can only be achieved when a leader has a competent team who interpret all that is communicated well. My philosophy in leadership stands on an idea that all leaders should be able to define and redefine missions and visions of the groups led. They should continuously and consistently communicate to their followers what the group is all about and missions and visions that need to be achieved after a given period. This because it is always important for a group to have a clear understanding of what needs to be done and what has already been done.

Leadership is innate or inborn. Very few people develop leadership skills although they undergo training. The only thing that they gain is the ability to identify what a good leader should do and the characteristics that he or she should bear. It is not always a guarantee for a leader to have a clear illustration of the groups destination. He or she must be able to follow whatever has been set on undergoing some form of education, resource management, encouragement, and getting guidance from people who have a better experience in the field. To ensure that the mission has been fruitfully achieved, a leader has priorities to exploit all talents that are necessary for the form of creativity, energy and being able to empower those who are still developing.

A successful leader should be in a position to provide help to others since this is a good or the appropriated measure of success in leadership (Maxwell 2007). It is only through helping and empowering others that a leader can succeed in all endeavors and progresses connected to the groups vision and mission. As a leader, he or she should not tolerate any form of faulty behavior and make choices that are poor. This is because such actions lead to bad luck, destructions, and failures which make the group impede its journey to the destination. All these are obstacles which a leader should be able to find a way to overcome since they are factors which are not supposed to derail any activity or progress.

Successful leaders must or should be flexible and ready to change according to what life avails. For instance, the current world is changing and developing rapidly regarding technology and systems. This means that leaders should also learn and adjust with the changing technology to give followers a psyched mind to change too. Whenever any given form of success is achieved, a good leader should not take credit. Instead, he or she is supposed to make a recognition of individual contributions, especially from followers since they are the main reason as to why success has been met. A leader is only there to guide and give directions at times when issues are complicated. Good leaders should take part or exhibit behaviors that followers can emulate. For instance, he or she should embrace peace, harmony, and cohesion so that followers can also develop similar characters. Leaders do what they required of others (John and Moser 1989:120).

As a human resource consultant, I believe in a leadership style that focuses on collaboration, cohesion, and consultation. While working with clients and other consultants, I always embrace the art of complex information gathering and making the right communication. These are virtues which are frequently needed in my line of work as a leader. As a leader, I take the responsibility of anything that occurs of in my group since am the primary point of reference. I take advice and points presented by clients and other stakeholders since they are part of the decision-making process. I would like to further my leadership roles, and this can only happen when I developed skills and aimed at inspiring others and ensuring that they do everything under my authority.

Regardless of whether one is a leader or not, everyone has values. Values are beliefs that represent an individuals ideas about what is right, good, or desirable. (Robbins and Judge 2011: 144). My values are all aligned, and I always strive to live according to what they state and require of me. In fact, this is what has made me succeed as a human resource consultant. They act as guidelines in almost everything that I take part in including my work and the kind of connections that I have with my family and friends. All the values are perfectly set, and they ensure that my life purpose is accomplished. Below are my core values:

Participation and contribution in community projects

Integrity and trustworthiness

Accountability, responsibility, and competency

Motivation, respect, and appreciation

Gratitude: this is where I appreciate everything done well and in accordance with ethics. This is regardless of whether they have large or small impacts.

To be successful, I try to live and operate in accordance with my core values. I always carry my values everywhere I go to implement and focus on empowering others using them. They shade my interaction with colleagues, friends, family and clients who I have a great connection with. These values represent the kind of person I am as they help me in getting along with people that I have met for the first time and places that I have visited for the first time in life. For instance, I ensure that I maintain integrity when performing my consultative tasks at work. This is what has made most of my clients to like and love what I do for them. I ensure that the reports that I give them are of high quality and touch on everything needed.

I recognize that leaders do not allow or let problems to become a problem (Maxwell 2007). This is because I do not allow failures to become a part of my life since I value responsibility and competency. In the same case, when my followers are in positions that might lead to failure, I try as much as possible to make them feel that everything can be corrected and nothing is permanent in life. Generally, I do not blame followers for failures as this is not the right way to act as a leader. Blames are never productive as they derail the groups movements and mission to reaching a set destination. I take part in development projects which are aimed at making life better. This is one of my values as it makes me have a better connection with my friends and all people who surround me. After everything is done well, I always show some sign of appreciation. This goes to everyone despite not contributing or taking part in any of the activities whatsoever. Appreciating the little things that people do is key to being successful as a leader. This is because the followers will try to do the same thing next time having in mind that they will be recognized and appreciated.

Personal Narrative

As a leader, I ensure that the kind of leadership that I offered is simple and straight forward. I include everyone in all decisions that need to be taken or made as a group. While doing so, I employ honesty, trustworthiness, and confidence. I maintain my ambitions as a leader so that my followers cannot develop doubts about the direction that am taking them. There are cases and events that have shaped me into being the kind of a leader that I am right now.

I gained experience from my entrepreneurship classes. In the categories, I was taught on how to project and present ideas as a leader. The practical part of it entailed making discussions in groups where I was chosen as a leader. This is one of the events that made me develop the desire to become a leader. I have been able to act as a captain on my school football team. In this role, I strived to lead by example and ensured that everyone had qualities that I had. In a Boxing club, I was given the role of a treasurer where I trained people how to invest and maintain stable financial positions.

From all the instances where I have acted as a leader, my leadership qualities have grown. For instance, as a football captain, I learned how to be understanding and how to take care of those who were depressed and not able to achieve their goals in life. I have maintained this attitude as currently am compassionate and ready to help everyone who is facing difficulties. The experiences still helped me to grow whereby I can deal with the most difficult situations faced by leaders. I learned this as a treasurer where I was held accountable for all financial records that were not correct and funds whose accounts were not available. In general, my leadership identity has grown as my personal life is oriented or revolves around leadership. Its good to be a leader, but one who has values and attitude that everyone can get attracted to.

Summary of leadership content area

Of all the considerations made by leaders, I found transformation and development as the most interesting aspects. I got the two aspects from an article written by Dahlvig and Longman. They say that every leaders life is defined by moments or events perceived to be cruciable (Dahlvig & Longman 2010: 246). These events make a leader become transformative while leading their subjects and also while connecting their values and effectiveness in leadership. The article made a summary of random actions that leaders take part in as a way of trying to have a better society. They say that there are small acts that occur in a leaders life that have impacts which are deemed to be dramatic.

The events are based on encouragement from a very influential person, getting ideas from role models and having some responsibility for the way of taking care of siblings. These are events that shape a leaders attitude, and they end up becoming transformative. They tend to bring about change in a society which is has been destroyed by negative values and leaders with no good intentions. (Dahlvig & Longman 2010:246)

The article also focused on giving some of the reasons as to why people should not ignore small changes that have been imposed on them. It says, The changes might be small, but have powerful impacts on the leadership development process (Dahlvig & Longman 2010: 246). It is never a good idea to take everything for granted since I have been a beneficiary of events taken seriously regardless of the fact that they are small. This means that everyone should be considered while making decisions in a group. Their comments might be key and have great impacts.

This material made a great connection with me as it highlighted or touched on some of the events which I have encountered in my role as leaders. I have had contacts with influential people who changed my perception as a leader. Most of them gave me better ideas on how to transform my followers into law abiding people. Contents of this article apply to my situation fully. This is where I have gained ideas on how to make my followers become people who are not self-centred. This means th...
