Good Shepherd Hospice: We provide the best hospice care to our patients. We serve different backgrounds and cultures. Our call is to provide the best in the hospice experience by providing music therapy, pain management, legacy project and social workers and many more services. Even though we provide discrete services to our clients, a large group of people comment negatively about hospice care due to their lack of knowledge. According to Lyan, limited understanding of hospice appears to be an obstacle from family members. Many caregivers have formal and informal knowledge. There are many reasons why people avoid the subject and why there are so much stigma around them. Hospice and palliative care is fairly new and has become popular within the last 20 years. In the United States, the number of hospitalized patients discharged to hospice has increased from 27912 in 2000 to 420892 in 2009 (Franks, 2009). Since it has become popular in this time, many people do not have knowledge of this subject and believe many myths about it. One popular myth that I hear is that hospice shortens the patients life and that once they are admitted, there is no turning back and the patient is going to die. This is not true. Many patients come out of Hospice care because their life expectancy has increased. Family members also avoid the subject because they want to treat the patient instead of just managing the patients symptoms so the patient can have a comfortable life. What our organization does to sustain and increase the environment for the patients and the families is through a social worker or social work intern to talk to the patients and family. As a social work intern, I make sure that the family understands what Hospice care is and what service it provides. If I see the family or patient having hard time hoping for the situation, I would continue to see them so that I can provide counseling to them. I will also start a legacy project for the families and the patients so that they can have a fiscal relearning to remember the patience when the time expires. Some legacy projects ewe do is to create teddy bears out of the patients favorite clothing have a patient write notes to the family members so that they can meet in different times in new life or make a recording challenge the family message. This helps the patient and the family to hope better for the situation. I believe knowledge is power and helping the family and patients understand what Hospice care is will help eliminate any negative thought towards our services and help them see how it will benefit their loved ones.

When analyzing an agency, it is prudent to consider their Mission, Goals, Vision, Objective, Organizational structure, Operational budget and Sources of funding. The agencys mission is to develop and provide services needed to minimize mental illness, disabilities and infectious diseases in the lives of those we serve and their families. The agencys goals are to help individuals in remote areas to get access to mental health care services. The hospice facility is a non-profit organization based on formal organizational structure. Formal structure is described in the organizational chart, policies, procedure manual, structure and functions of different organizational units and official chain of command (Garthwait, 2014). Also, a client who may feel positively impacted is those who are still paid with low issuance. These individuals are seen to have low skills and are often do not pay for services like counseling, nurse services, and pediatrics services as well. The hospice facility offers these services to these individuals because of lack sources of funding in operating budget. For example, the hospice receives funding from the state programs like health department or behavioral aid for individuals with disabilities especially to individuals who are greatly in need of the services. Also, staff members must meet certain criteria when scheduling certain new patients which help our operating budget. New patients must see the doctor within the first five days of their intake. If the staff members fail to have, these clients see the doctors within these time frame the agencys KPI is off track and removes it when the door is open.

As an internee, my goal is to attain as much knowledge about my agency that will allow me to continue to provide services and tools and also help patients from low income and remote areas. For example, as I am working outside my agency as an individual. I will handle the skills and knowledge to meet the needs of these individuals at my agency since I am trained to know the proper skills and knowledge to use for servicing. Also, there are different activities I am planning to engage include in acquiring more knowledge to progress my career.

In closing, I have learned from these weeks reading that there are several aspects to consider enabling agencies to be able to provide services to their consumers. One most considered area is the organizational structure as it can positively or negatively impact their operation ability (Garthwait, 2014).
