Major cases that she has dealt with in her career

Amal was part of the team that was representing the founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange in 2010. After visiting Sweden in 2010, Julian Assange was accused of sexually assaulting two women whom he had sex with during his visit to the country (Talaga). After, the effort of his lawyer including Amal, the case was closed and asked to leave the country. Ecuador granted him, a political asylum and he lives in the embassy of Ecuador in London. The case was later re-opened in November same year, by a special prosecutor who wanted to question the offender over two counts of sexual harassment- lesser-degree rape and unlawful coercion. The attorney said that the Swedish law prohibited her from interrogating anyone in the London embassy or via a video link. Later on, after public demand, the prosecutor concurred to question Mr. Assange while still in the Ecuadorian embassy in London and the interview begun on 14th November 2016. Although his three cases of less serious allegation have expired, he is yet to be interrogated over the claim of lesser degree rape which will expire in 2020.

Another major case that Amal has preceded is that of Yulia Tymoshenko. She was a team member of the lawyers who represented the former Ukrainian prime minister who was be prosecuted at the European Court of Human Rights. Yulia is known as she was the leader of Ukraines Orange Revolution in 2004 and highly opposed the former Ukraine president Viktor Yanukovych. Amal significantly challenged the imprisonment of former Ukraine Prime Minister (Talaga). Amals client was accused of various crimes such as harming the interest of her country when she was carrying out negotiations with the Russia government about the price of their natural gas. She was to levies a fine of $190 million and banned from any form of politics for ten years. She was later convicted to seven years in prison after she was found guilty. Later on, a team of international legal experts that Amal was part of questioned the ruling since the prime minister was carrying out a routine administrative duty. According to Amal, if the government was not pleased with how she carried out that task, it should have disciplined her instead of being charged with a crime. After much push by her lawyers, her imprisonment was rescinded and set free.

Amal has been spearheading to ensure that the ruling is made for Greece over their Elgin Marbles case. Greece has been pushing for 30 years to make sure that their marbles, which were taken by Lord Elgin in 1800s, are returned (Talaga). Elgin sold those marbles to the government of British. Up-to-date, no solution has been found concerning the case. The decision was made by the European Court of Human Rights that British could not return the marbles to Greece since the event took place more than 150 years ago. But Amals team that was representing Greece questioned the ruling because the judgment came when the case was at its first stage. The high chances are that the case will be reopened again and the Greece will take back their marbles.

In 2013, Amal was appointed as the advisor to the U.N. special envoy to Syria headed by Kofi Annan. The mission of Kofi Annan in Syria was to end violence and violation of human rights. According to their findings, President of Syria Bashar al-Assad was the cause of the war that has been going on in his country for more than five years (Glaze). The human rights lawyer said that she would be delighted to work on the case of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in The Hague for causing the war and violating the human rights. She said that she would work on the case to ensure that the rights of individuals are protected, and President al-Assad is brought to justice. The report released by UN concluded that Syrian Government led by President al-Assad had committed war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Amal has made great milestones in her philanthropic work in ensuring that there is justice in the courtroom and human being acquire their entitled rights. In 2016, they launched a massive project to educate Syrian refugee kids in Lebanon and the hefty initial cash of $1 million was donated by Google. The money was donated to their organization- Clooney Foundation for Justice. According to her, their plan is to assist more than 250,000 Lebanon children who are not in school. More than half of these youngsters are school-aged kids, and most of them have never set their foot inside a classroom. It means that this generation will be in a horrible position a decade from now and the organization wants to rescue these kids. Her effort is to ensure that humanity does not lose the whole generation only because they were brought in this world in the wrong place at the wrong era. According to her report, 10,000 refugee children will enroll in school and should be taught everything starting from mathematics, human rights, and computer coding. By the year 2018, her organization is aiming to have enrolled 50,000 children in school (Woodcock). The major hurdle of the project is that major countries that accepted Syrian refugees do not have adequate resources to educate such large number of pupils. In an attempt to overcome such challenges they will build more school in areas that have a high concentration of refugees.

In her an effort to ensure that every refugee is safe, Amal has called the UK to accept more refugees as she knows these people have nowhere to go after fleeing their war invaded country. She further requested the Prime Minister Theresa May to take action against the Islamic State terror group for their human rights violation against humanity especially the minority groups like Yazidis (Woodcock). Theresa should take a leadership role and press the UN to ensure their war against terror group is effective and rescue the humanity from this inhuman group. Also, she said that she would be opening a legal case against Isis to find justice for a 23-year-old girl Nadia Murad who has been used as a sex slave after being kidnapped along with other members of her society Yazidis (Woodcock). Together with her husband George, they took Mulad to their house to take care of her after coming across her escape ordeal.

In conclusion, Amal is an enthusiastic human right activist who has won many cases to ensure that human rights are protected and respected. Most of these cases are international and focus on areas that have been highly dominated by violence in all parts of the world. Due to her extensive knowledge in the field of human right and tender age, she is expected to accomplish more cases. She has improved lives of many war victims and ensures that their rights are not violated. She is expected to garner more resources using her philanthropic organization and improve the lives of a large number of expatriates as well as other victims of human right violation.
