The nursing profession is the leading segment of the countrys health care personnel, and it has about 3 million members (The Future of Nursing, 2017). The nurses play a very crucial role in assisting the nation to attain its goal of ensuring all citizens can access high-quality health care the across the whole country. The state is trying to respond to obstacles that might prevent them from delivering efficient and cost-effective care to the citizen. One of the major factors limiting states to deliver quality services is the shortage of nurses as the population is increasing at high rate especially the baby boomers who want special and close health care. In responses, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) in collaboration with IOM launched a program to evaluate and transform the nursing profession. The IOM selected a committee that would come up with a report that would give guidelines on the actions to be taken for the future of nursing. After a comprehensive research and evaluation of the situation awaiting the nursing profession, they developed four primary strategies.

First, Nurses should be given a platform to practice their role to the full potential of their education and training (The Future of Nursing, 2017). The research concluded that nurses have abundant potential to lead innovative plans to improve the whole healthcare system if given a good platform. However, they have been limited to exploit their full potential by historical policies and regulatory. These barriers have been limiting their chances of the generating a significant transformation in the health care sector. Other obstacles in the area of health include the aging workforce; demographic challenges and the fact that nurses have not been able to move from school to workplace to put their knowledge into practice directly (The National Academies Press, 2017). Second, the education system should be improved to give nurses an opportunity to advance their education and training. The school system of the nurses should be changed both before and after the nurses have received their license as a way of transforming the health care system. The education system has to be improved to ensure that the current and future generations of nurses can deliver, quality, safe, and patient-centered care across all health setting (The National Academies Press, 2017). The main settings that require transformed health care system are primary care, public, and community health. The curricula should be updated to make sure that nurses have adequate and right competencies by implementing innovative strategies. For instances, use of technologies to deliver simulation and online education is being used to ensure that nurses who possess ADN can be able to advance their education to BSN or MSN.

Third, nurses should be given an opportunity to work with all health professionals as partners, to redesign the health care system in the country (The Future of Nursing, 2017). Since leadership is crucial in transforming the health care system, the nursing personnel should produce leaders across the whole system starting from bedside to the meeting room. The leaders of the nursing profession should act as full partners with doctors and other general practitioners. They should be liable to what they contribute towards high-quality care delivery while working together with leaders from other departments. Nurses should extend their competencies gained in the process of leadership to other health setting such as communities, hospitals, boards, business, and political arenas within nursing as well as health profession (The National Academies Press, 2017). Lastly, improved information infrastructure and better data collection are essential for effective workforce planning as well as formulating policies. Strategic workforce planning in the health care will require sufficient and reliable data collected using sophisticated information infrastructure. Some of the data that requires being collected include types of professionals in the health sector who are employed, where they are working and their role, and the kind of the activities they perform in their workplace.

Importance of IOM in Nursing

The IOM recognizes the importance of expanding the scope of nursing practice but gives guidelines that nurses should offer services depending on their specialization. In the scope of nurses practice, the IOM recognizes the significant of improving the education system to prepare nurses to deliver equitable, patient-centered, high-quality, and safe health care services. Also, nurses are given an opportunity to interact with physicians and professionals in the health care sector, which helps them to deliver effective and efficient care. Moreover, the IOM report gives nurses a chance to engage in leadership, which helps them to play a significant role in changing the health care system. In the education system, the report gives guidelines on how education should be transformed so that the nurses can be able to receive skills needed to cater for the growing care needs (National Academy of Sciences, 2015). According to the report, nursing curricula should be reexamined, be updated, and adaptive to changes that come with the clients need. This will give nurses an opportunity to advance technologically as most of these modern adaptive systems require competent personnel. The nursing schools are giving nurses a chance to engage in comprehensive research giving them an opportunity to expand their knowledge.

The report gives nurses an opportunity to pursue three different educational programs to become registered nurses. The various programs give all students opportunities to access careers in any economically stable field. To ensure that nurses can advance their career while still delivering services to the patients the report gives nurses opportunity to pursue their higher education online (National Academy of Sciences, 2015). The leadership role that is assigned to the nurses has helped them to develop their careers and work with other health professions as partners.

Role of Campaign for Action Coalition in New Jersey

In the process of building a healthier America, Action Coalitions in New Jersey carries out the work of the campaign in all regions of the state. Advocates at the community level including agents from health organization, education, and businesses are significantly contributing o the process of building a healthier state through nursing(Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action Issues", 2017). The campaign focuses on different issues in an effort of ensuring that the health care is transformed for the better through the subsequent efforts. One, improving access to health care by making sure that nurses are given an opportunity to practice their roles depending on their level of education and training. Second, the campaign is also promoting leadership among the nurses with the aim of ensuring that they are given an opportunity to contribute to transforming the care system. Third, the campaign is also changing the nursing education system to ensure that nurses are prepared for the current and future generation care needs (Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action Issues", 2017). Fourth, the campaign is ensuring that modern data infrastructures are installed in all health care centers in New Jersey to ease the system of collecting and storing medical data. Lastly, they are carrying out campaign to ensure that nurses assist in building a healthy community by providing health care to everyone in the state.
